Definition
A rating reset clears your app's overall App Store star rating, so it starts fresh with a new version.
You can only reset your rating when you release a new version. You turn it on for that version in App Store Connect. Apple says the reset applies to every country and region at the same time.
After a reset, your page shows a note that the rating was recently reset. A new overall rating appears once enough people rate the new version. Written reviews don't go away. And once the new version is out, you can't bring back the old rating.
When to use it
Apple recommends using this feature sparingly. It makes the most sense after you fix a big problem that dragged your rating down. If the same complaints keep showing up in new reviews, a reset won't help for long.
Example
An app's rating fell from 4.5 to 3.6 after a buggy release. The team fixed the crash in the next version and chose to reset the rating with it. Old reviews stayed on the page, but the star score started over.
